Andrew Theodore Sendry, Sr., 90, of Leechburg, died, Wednesday, January 26, 2011 while in route to the Alle-Kiski Medical Center from the DCI Dialysis Clinic. He was born October 31, 1920 in Georgetown, Gilpin Township and was the son of the late Steve Sendry, Sr. and Elizabeth (Toth) Sendry.
Andrew was a member of the Cross Roads Community Presbyterian Church, Leechburg. He was a Trustee and Elder of the former Gray Stone Presbyterian Church, Leechburg.
He worked for the Penn Glenn and Industrial Terminal Systems for 47 years and retired in 1986.
He graduated from Leechburg High School in 1937.
Andrew served for 3 ½ years during World War II. He first served as a First Lieutenant in the Pacific with the Army Amphibian Engineer Corps. He was then transferred to the Army Air Corps where he served as a pilot in the Army Air Force Base Unit Transport Command.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Andrew Theodore Sendry, III. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Steve Sendry and two sisters, Elizabeth Huffman and Charlotte Bonello.
Andrew is survived by his devoted wife Pearl (Szaday) Sendry with whom he celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on January 18, 2011. He is also survived by his son, Andrew T. (Diane) Sendry, Jr. of Davidsville, PA; a daughter, Andrea E. Sendry, at home; a granddaughter Lori(James)Pierce of Indiana, PA and two great granddaughters, Alyssa Pierce and Sarah Pierce. He is survived by a brother, Ernest (Betty) Sendry of Apollo, PA.
At the request of Mr. Sendry, there will be no public visitation. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family, officiating will be his pastors, The Reverend Gary J. and Lisa Lyon.
Burial will be private at the Tod Homestead Cemetery, Youngstown OH.
