Dominick J. Spagnola , 64, formerly of Vandergrift, of Gilpin Township, passed away on Monday, October 29, 2012 in Forbes Hospice Inpatient Unit at West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Born September 20, 1948 in Pittsburgh to the late Clarence and Consylvia (Roberto) Spagnola, Dominick lived in Gilpin Township for the past 20 years. He was employed by Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation in Brackenridge as a bricklayer for 30 years, retiring in 2007.
Mr. Spagnola was a member of the St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, Vandergrift. He was a graduate of Kiski Area High School, Class of 1968, the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and LaRoche College.
Dominick was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, camping, hiking and skiing at his cabin near Seven Springs. He also enjoyed photography and being with his grandchildren.
Mr. Spagnola was preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Toni Wargo, Carol Marsh, Patty O'Hare, Kathy Spagnola and Regina Spagnola and one uncle, Albert DeMichele.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sandra M. "Sandy" (DeBernardi) Spagnola of Gilpin Township, son, Steven (Joy) Spagnola of Gilpin Township, daughter, Consylvia Spagnola of Oakmont, four grandchildren, Dominic, Nico, Giavonna and Dimitri Spagnola, two sisters, Dolores Basara of Sharpsburg and Sylvia (Chuck) Lavezoli of Upper St. Clair and aunt Rose DeMichele of Vandergrift as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00PM in The Brady-Curran Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 429 Franklin Avenue, Vandergrift, PA 15690. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at 10:00AM in St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, Vandergrift, with Father James Loew, O.S.B as celebrant. Burial in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell PA.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Dominick's name to the National Parks Conservation Association, 777 6th Street, N.W., Suite 700, Washington DC 20001-3723.
